WWE Soap and Scrub: Murphy Says It Won’t Get Dirt Out (UPDATED)
Ben Marter, spokesman for the Chris Murphy campaign, says the effort by WWE to remove spicy content from the web won’t work. The company says it is concerned that content from the network’s previous “edgier” era is being “mis-used in political environments.” Here’s Marter:
This is what Linda McMahon doesn’t want Connecticut voters to see: the sum total of her business experience comes from selling explicit sex and violence to children while laying off 10% of her workforce and taking multimillion dollar paydays funded by Connecticut taxpayers. But spending millions of dollars on a political image make-over isn’t going to fool Connecticut families, and Linda McMahon can’t hide from her miserable record of promoting the abusive, demeaning, and degrading treatment of women. The question is: is the WWE now coordinating with McMahon to cover up her embarrassing past?
UPDATE: In response, the WWE’s Brian Flinn sends this statement:
Chris Murphy’s implication or assertion that WWE is coordinating with Linda McMahon’s U.S. Senate campaign is untrue; to do so would be unlawful and in violation of Federal Election Commission regulations. Should Chris Murphy file a complaint with the FEC, it would be no more legitimate than the complaint filed two years ago by the Connecticut Democratic State Central Committee and State Chair Nancy DiNardo, which was found to have no merit and was dismissed by the FEC.

Cry me a river Ben Marter–your guy had done very little in Congress other than not paying his personal bills and we expect him to be a responsible US Senator? I don’t think so. Polls have already showed people don’t care about WWE or the content of years past–they are concerned about the economic viability of our country.
Will Chris Murphy go after Hollywood for its depiction of women and selling sex and violence? Highly doubtful since Hollywood is in the back pocket of Democrats and the President. The HYPOCRISY in your party and candidate is a big joke. Once the democrats give back all the money they have received from Hollywood elites, I’ll take your criticism of Linda McMahon and WWE seriously. All you are doing is using a tired talking point that will get you no where.
The WWE is simply trying to make all of its content, old and new, appropriate for all of its viewers of all ages. With the internet making clips like these accessible to young kids at ease today, WWE is simply trying to make sure its current TV-PG programming is appropriate even in its archives.
Are you kidding me???? I’m not a Democrat but you think the WWE is doing this NOW? for the good of the people? OMG.
I agree with Maria. WWE is trying to clean up some of its older/edgier content for the sake of its viewers and not anybodies political campaign. Can’t we just stick to the issues?
Chris Murphy Is so out of touch with the working people. For one thing He makes $170k a yr by himself-that is more than some Doctors make and he doesn’t show up for his job~ let’s be generous 60% of the time–now we all know if we didnt show up for our job 60% of the time where we would be. Second WWE is entertainment just like beach volleyball, just like racecar driving (with all the sexy girls they use to advertise) at Least Linda has a business that is successful. And she knows how to run a successful business in todays world. Chris Murphy has no idea what women go through-he never had a papsmear, never had a baby, never had biopsy on his breast, never went through menopause all the things only a women would know. Come on People in CT let’s wake up and do something good for this State-Elect Linda McMahon!!
I think the only reason the WWE is cleaning up their act is because of Linda McMahon run for the Senate. If that was not happen nothing will be change. I am not a democratic or a republican, but CT voters need to wake up
Quite a choice we have – one doesn’t show up for work and one that has no clue. Maybe one of these days, they will start talking about the issues. I think we all know by now that Linda faced foreclosure and filed bankruptcy. She uses this as a selling point. But, Chris faced foreclosure and PAID his debt and according to Linda, that is a bad thing. Do we want this mindset in the senate? I’m neither democrat or republican but I’m tired of not hearing any solutions from these two, is there a third choice?
