City auditors have reviewed Hartford’s waste, recycling and tipping fee operations. The takeaway:

“We are pleased to report that operations were found to be satisfactory. However, certain procedures need to be documented and controls established, going forward, to make sure waste collection is only provided to eligible properties in the City. In addition, we conservatively estimate that DPW management could potentially save approximately $250,000 per year in tipping fees by increasing its recycling rate, and eliminating service to ineligible properties.”
