BOE Approves Teacher Contract; Union Still Needs To Ratify

by Categorized: Schools, Unions Date:

The Hartford school board last night approved a proposed collective bargaining agreement with the Hartford Federation of Teachers, whose current three-year contract expires in mid-2014.

But details of the proposal are still not public. We’re told that until union membership ratifies the new pact — likely voting in early January — the parties will not disclose information in the agreement. The school board was briefed on the contract in a closed-door executive session before its 5-0 vote Thursday night.

After beginning negotiations in October, the Hartford school system reached a tentative agreement with HFT leadership last Friday. The school board was originally set to vote on the proposed contract Tuesday, but snowy weather postponed the meeting.
