Segarra Receives Leadership Award

Mayor Pedro Segarra has received the Antonio Villaraigosa Leadership Award at the U.S. Conference of Mayors, city officials said.

The accolade is traditionally given to city mayors who’ve made significant contributions in bringing diverse communities together.

MAYOR SEGARRA ATTENDS U.S. CONFERENCE OF MAYORS; ACCEPTS NATIONAL LEADERSHIP AWARD

— NEWS AND COMMUNITY STATEMENT—

(June 21, 2013) Today, Mayor Pedro E. Segarra will attend the U.S. Conference of Mayors in Las Vegas where he will be honored with the Antonio Villaraigosa Leadership Award.  The award honors mayors of cities with significant minority populations who display an unwavering commitment to ‘bringing diverse communities together.’ Past recipients include Mayor Michael Nutter of Philadelphia and Mayor Julian Castro of San Antonio. Mayor Segarra will be presented with the award by Mayor Villaraigosa of Los Angeles at the Tribute to Mayors reception hosted by the Latino Leaders Network on Sunday, June 23.

While at the conference, Mayor Segarra will be meeting with Phil McNamara, Assistant Secretary at the Department of Homeland Security to discuss urban safety strategies; he will meet with Mayors Against Illegal Guns and participate in several sessions including STEM Education, Technology and Innovation, and the Immigration Task Force.
