Mayor Pedro Segarra, the Asylum Hill Neighborhood Association and Friends of Sigourney Square Park will host a grand re-opening of Sigourney Square Park on Saturday.
The event will feature a ribbon-cutting ceremony, face painting and performances from neighborhood children.
Renovations on the park, which include a new playground, basketball court surface and additional benches, began in 2011.
The event runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the park (located at the intersection of Sigourney and Sergeant streets).

GRAND REOPENING OF SIGOURNEY SQUARE PARK
— NEWS AND COMMUNITY STATEMENT—
(June 14, 2013) – On Saturday, June 15, Mayor Segarra, the Asylum Hill Neighborhood Association, Friends of Sigourney Square Park (F.O.S.S.P) will host the grand re-opening of Sigourney Square Park. Renovations which began in 2011 include a new playground, adult fitness and basketball court surface area , additional benches and represent approximately $800,000 in capital improvements to the park.
The ribbon cutting ceremony will start at 11:30am, followed by face painting, recreational activities, and performances from neighborhood youth, the Glory Chapel Church, Sankofa Kumba, and the Alvin Carter Ensemble.
