Jargon Watch — Amazonopoeia

by Categorized: Uncategorized Date:

Amazonopoeia is shopping on Amazon.com or writing user reviews for rhetorical purposes.

For example, these people who feel Paula Dean was overpunished have used Amazon to drive her sales rank up and post comments about her.

Note that this commenter appears to be a chronic Amazonopoetic:

I’ll probably never read this cookbook but it will sit front and center in my bookcase next to The Satanic Verses by Salman Rushdie, and my unopened 2 Live Crew CD. I’ll feel quite pleased everytime I see them there. My little contributions to the war on hypocrisy and censorship. Worth every penny.

and this one did a twofer:

I don’t normally buy items for a political statement but this time I have. Paula has freedom of speech and I have the power of the buck. Today I bought this book AND a box of cheerios (in support of their ad that contains a mixed race marriage). Time for American to grow up beyond the age of ten years old, get over the polical correctness crap and get on with life.

Meanwhile Wendy Davis fans are running wild with Amazonopoetic sow purchases:

    A modern form of graffiti?

      I is what I is.

That is so early 21st century. And the human need to express an opinion is the same as an animal peeing on a tree as message. Animal graffiti.

In the days of yore using editorial and opinion pages to line litter boxes and bird cages was the equivalent of an animal peeing on a tree to mark territory. I love technology. Look how we’ve progressed!

I have no idea what it was that Paula Dean said nor do I really care. What bothers me is that anyone who goes off script on the accepted narrative gets the Thought Police after him or her.

She seems like a nice lady to me. If she said something stupid, I think we can forgive her. We have all done that.

Yep, we sure have all sinned. But the suit against her is for duplicity of policy in her eating establishments and discrimination against African Americans. If she is no long hands on management, the buck still stops at her door. And if I am correct, the person bringing the suit is Caucasian.

She had the option of settling but she didn’t want to put it to sleep for a cool million. Now, she will lose 10s of millions if not hundreds of millions in the end.

I don’t think she had good counsel.

But one think about many of those white Southerners… (Here it comes.) you scratch the surface a bit only to reveal ole Jim Scare Crow hollerin up from the ever present but covered over dungeon.

Yep and that nice little lady be cookin up all that tasty and very fattening ante bellem soul food I think I should go git me some right now.
