Whatever Happened to Betsy (Jean?) King?

So we did a show about the TDF today.

Our final segment was about gender parity in the sport or — to put it more bluntly — why is there no women’s TDF? We interviewed Kathryn Bertine, and I asked if the sport has a Billie Jean King or a Mia Hamm — somebody who can help it cross over.

I didn’t really get a clear answer. It seems essential that women get into the TDF in order to make other kinds of progress. Billie Jean King needed the stage of Wimbledon to be who she was.

Anyway, come to find out that one of the sport’s early pioneers was Betsy King. From Farmington!

She did race in the TDF back when women were allowed.

She seems to have relocated.
