An insurance trade group and lobbying organization in Connecticut announced Wednesday it has a new president who served as associate counsel for the Connecticut Business and Industry Association, or CBIA.

Eric George of Glastonbury will start mid-July as president of the Insurance Association of Connecticut, filling a position held by Robert A. Kehmna who is retiring after 27 years with the organization.

“The IAC represents the leading insurance companies in the state, and Bob Kehmna has been an outstanding leader for our state trade group,” Hugh Barrett, chairman of the IAC Executive Committee, said in a statement. “The members are tremendously appreciative of his dedication and long service to our industry. We believe Eric will continue the high level of representation on legislative and regulatory matters affecting the IAC members.”

George holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Connecticut and a law degree from the UConn Law School. He is a member of the Connecticut Bar. George served as associate counsel and lobbyist for the CBIA and was an attorney with Pullman & Comley, LLC.

The Insurance Association of Connecticut represents the property-casualty, life insurance, group benefits, long-term care and financial services industries. It has lobbied on behalf of insurers to state legislators.
