Liberty Mutual will have a new chairman later this year.
The property-casualty insurer’s CEO and President David H. Long, 52, will succeed Edmund F. “Ted” Kelly, 67, who is retiring his position as a director and chairman at the end of June.
Long’s career with Liberty Mutual stretches back 28 years. He became president in 2010 and CEO two years ago.
Liberty Mutual has 530 employees in 13 offices across Connecticut. The offices are in Wallingford, Stamford, Glastonbury, Norwich, Trumbull, Middlebury, Bethel, Farmington, Cromwell, Windsor, Rocky Hill and Vernon. Farmington has two offices.
Liberty Mutual was the top insurer of homes in Connecticut in 2011, the most recent information available, with $136.3 million in written premiums, according to data available through the Connecticut Insurance Department. Liberty Mutual was the second leading writer of commercial insurance in Connecticut with $299 million in written premiums, after The Travelers Cos., which had $319 million in written premiums.
