Michael Strain, a scholar at the American Enterprise Institute, says what Democrats have tried to spur the recovery hasn’t worked, but adds that Republicans are even worse:
“They often refuse to even acknowledge the problem, or to acknowledge the fact that it requires ambitious policy solutions.”
He has a laundry list of them. Some are already in place in Connecticut, such as the STEP UP wage subsidy program, and allowing workers on partial furloughs to collect unemployment. At least here, they haven’t made a significant dent in unemployment, though it’s possible joblessness would be even worse without them.
