Plans by a Virginia-based auto parts maker to open a distribution center in a former LEGO warehouse in Enfield are getting a boost from the state.

Advance Auto Parts is expected to receive a $5 million loan from the state Department of Economic and Community Development to help finance the opening of a 450,000-square-foot facility, which will add 100 to 200 jobs, according to an announcement today from Gov. Dannel P. Malloy.

Advance Auto expects to invest more than $30 million in the facility to ramp up its business in the Northeast to speed up delivery of its products in the region.

The warehouse at 300 Shaker Road is located in the Enfield Business Park and has been owned since 2007 by a partnership of Calare Properties and Hackman Capital.

LEGO relocated its North American distribution and warehousing operations in early 2007, and the massive building has stood vacant for much of the time since then.

LEGO still retains a presence in the business park, leasing space for corporate offices and a daycare.

Final approval from the State Bond Commission for the loan is expected Aug. 31, Malloy said.

“The expansion is great news for Connecticut, but will be especially celebrated in Enfield where prime warehouse space that has sat idle for years will once again be a thriving contributor to the regional economy,” Malloy said, in a statement.

DECD’s loan is for 10 years at a below-market rate of two percent and will be used to purchase machinery and equipment. The loan, or a portion if it, may be forgiven if certain job milestones are met.

Advance Auto is a retailer of parts, accessories, batteries and maintenance items, serving both the do-it-yourselfer and professional markets. The company has 3,692 stores in 39 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

This can’t be true. All the Republicans tell me there’s no business in Connecticut! Who do I believe? Republicans? Or reality??

  2. Mike says:

isn’t headline a little misleading ? They are not a “parts-maker”….they are distributors.

another give away of OUR tax dollars by DANNY BOY and the tax and spend DEMOCRATS. Its a simple equation
DEMOCRATS = HIGHER TAXES. Read this week’s Barrons Magazine CT ranks dead last in worst run states. And who has controlled the house and senate for the last 30 plus years democrats. I agree we’ve had two RINOS the criminal Rowland and sleeping beauty Rell who has retired out of state with her $200K+ pension. The tax man is a comin next year. DANNY BOY has already drawn up legislation for another $2 BILLION tax increase. Don’t say I didn’t warn you

As an Enfield resident and a household surving on one income for approx 3 years, I am greatful for the new prospect of jobs coming to the area. At the same time sadden knowing that the jobs coming will not be able to help with my household or lower my taxes. With all these “major” empty buildings in Enfield being bought by big companies maybe in 2014 the taxes will be lower. As for the 2013 year the town of Enfield has already stated their will be increase in taxes.

And isn’t the Town of Enfield run by Republicans?? What are they doing taking tax money from a democrat??

  6. Brian says:

@ “knowsbetter” This is nothing more than a Democratic governor making funds available in an election year to help the democratic ticket. The Obummer administrations record on job creation is horrible so it doesnt surprise me one bit that Malloy is pushing this right now. @ “Joe” the Republicans of Enfield have absolutely nothing to do with the state Department of Economic and Community Development loaning a private company money. It doesn’t matter if the leadership is Republican or Democratic either would welcome new business to Town.
