Foxwoods Plans Major Retail Expansion Of 85 Outlet Stores
Foxwoods Resort Casino is about to give you another reason to visit: outlet shopping.
Greenwich developer Sheldon Gordon said today he plans to build a shopping mall with 85 stores and more than 300,000 square feet on land leased in the heart of the southeastern Connecticut attraction. The mall would connect the MGM hotel and casino and the Grand Pequot hotel.
Foxwoods is expected to formally announce plans for the outlet mall Wednesday.
“We have signed a long-term ground lease with them, and we have been negotiating and writing leases with most of the better quality outlet retailers in the world,” Gordon said.
Gordon declined to name any potential outlets or how much the construction will cost. Construction is expected to begin this spring and take 14 months to complete.
Gordon is chairman of Gordon Group Holdings, which also developed The Shops at Mohegan Sun at Foxwoods rival casino, Mohegan Sun. Other projects include Bridgemarket in New York City, San Francisco Center and the Beverly Center in Los Angeles.
