New Haven Unfavorable For Renters?
New Haven can boast about a lot of things, including a steadily increasing number of apartment dwellers, particularly in its downtown. The New Haven area also has one of the lowest vacancy rates in the country, with just 2.1 percent of apartments vacant.
But according to a Forbes report released today, the price to rent versus owning property is going up, and New Haven is among the worst for renters.
The National Association of Realtors has estimated that the price for rentals will rise by 4% this year and an additional 4% in 2013, according to the Forbes report. Meanwhile, home prices in Connecticut, still seem to be declining, according to a spring housing survey done by the Courant, and mortgage rates have been at or near record lows.
