There’s a new tenant for the former Coach’s Sports Tavern space on Hartford’s Ann Street but a familiar name.

The Tavern Downtown, now located just steps away on Allyn Street, is moving to the larger Coach’s space, city officials told me today.

Furniture was being moved into the space this afternoon.

The Tavern’s owner, Jerry Fornarelli, also owns the Russian Lady and The Rocking Horse, in the same block. He also owns Up or On The Rocks near Union Station.

Fornarelli hopes to open the relocated Tavern Downtown for tomorrow’s St. Patrick’s Day, the officials told me. As of 3 p.m., the Coach’s name was still outside the building.

I’m sure the “boyz in the hood” will like this.

..and that means what exactly? Is it that you feel “The Tavern” attracts a bad element, or that the Allyn Street area does? Either statement would be completely false as Allyn Street is a lot more vibrant than it used to be and the growth of a nice restaurant/bar like this can only help the area. This is exactly the attitude that keeps Hartford from fulfilling its potential..
