Steal This Prius
If you own a Prius, you love those fuel efficiency numbers. Here’s another amazing Prius statistic: Since the first Prius was stolen on Sept. 4, 2000, just 80 of the Toyota hybrids have not been recovered.
And that’s out of 1.2 million sold, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau in a report Wednesday.
Not only is the Prius recovery rate high, the theft rate is among the lowest in the business — just 2,439 thefts in all. For Prii (that’s the plural according to Toyota) in the 2008-2010 model years, there has been one theft for every 608 on the road. That compares with 1 in 78 for all vehicles.
One possible reason: Cars are sold for parts and Prius parts are not interchangeable, an expert told Bloomberg News.

Theft will soar when the batteries on the early ones reach end of life.
Well that’s good news. I L-O-V-E my Prius.
Who would steal such an ugly car?
