Town-By-Town Map Illustrates Trouncing in U.S. Senate Primaries
Republican Linda McMahon and Democrat Chris Murphy scored resounding victories in Tuesday’s primary elections for U.S. Senate, winning three-quarters and two-thirds of the vote, respectively. Their support was so broad-based that they were out-polled by their competitors in only a handful of the state’s 169 cities and towns.
The maps below show the lopsided wins for McMahon and Murphy. Towns shaded in red cast a majority of ballots for the winner. Towns shaded in blue voted mostly for their challengers, Republican Chris Shays and Democrat Susan Bysiewicz. The deeper the color shade, the greater the margin of victory.
Shays had a strong showing in just four towns, all in his Fairfield County base. Bysiewicz fared slightly better, winning majorities in a number of towns, particularly around Middletown and some northeastern border towns.
