If you want to sell tickets, you have to woo them in and then show them what delights are in store for them if they come back. It’s simple marketing 101.

And for the first time that anyone can remember, that’s what the Bushnell did Tuesday to tease its 2012-2013 new season to a select group of media, excursion group leaders, and donors and invited guests who not only noshed on appetizing treats, but got a taste of the musical season courtesy of cast members from “Million Dollar Quartet.”

“Million Dollar Quartet,” about a recording session with Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins, is one of six shows so far that are part of the 2012-2013 season.

“People should plan to come to see it because I’m in it,” teased Eddie Clendening, who plays Elvis in the show.

Other shows will include “Mary Poppins,” Dr. Suess’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas,” “Billy Elliot,” American Idiot,” “Sister Act”  and “Catch Me If You Can.”

Among those “shopping” the season was Joelle Hayes, head of diversity at Travelers. Among her duties is scouting the city for arts opportunities that reflect diversity.

“The Color Purple,” “In the Heights,” “Memphis,” “West Side Story,” she ticked off mentioning some of the Bushnell offerings her company promoted to its employees because of the diversity featured in the story plots.  “The Bushnell does a good job and I am looking forward to the season.”
