Those who had a hot ticket for former president Bill Clinton’s sold-out program at the Bushnell Friday night were excited about his arrival long before his chauffeured car finally drove up to the Hartford theater at about 6:10 p.m.
And while some complained his speech at forum 20th anniversary event had too much to do with personal retrospect and not enough with grittier topics like current events and politics today, the evening ended with a standing ovation and an “I saw a rock star” mentality after the hour long program was done.
Among those at the speech and the VIP pre-program reception were the now-retired Yale admission director who smiled as he recalled saying “yes” to the applications of both Bill and wife, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton when they applied to that school, Georgetown University friend and fellow student, John King of New Britain and a who’s who of execs from some of the area’s biggest companies.
The last time the former president spoke at the Bushnell was 16 years ago for a presidential debate, but he seemed more than familiar and extremely comfortable as he took center stage once again.
While execs at neither The Ct Forum nor the Bushnell , which co-sponsored the event, are sharing the exact amount of Clinton’s rumored six-figure speaking fee, the two entities are considering future cooperative ventures.
