pepes1 (2)Seems like we have been waiting forever for West Hartford/Elmwood’s newest restaurant and its famed white clam pizza. And finally, oh finally, it is opening Monday.

New Haven’s Pepe’s Pizzeria Napoletana will open its new place in the Elmwood Shopping Center on New Britain Avenue with ribbon-cutting ceremonies (and more importantly, tastings)  scheduled for 10:30 a.m.

Pepe’s, for those who have somehow missed this slice of Connecticut pizza history, opened on Wooster Street in New Haven in 1925, and since then has become a national icon when it comes to its distinctive stone pies made in the legendary brick-lined, red-hot baking ovens.

With just the sole restaurant in New Haven for decades, Pepe’s has gradually added additional stores including those in Manchester, Danbury, Fairfield, at Mohegan Sun and in Yonkers, N.Y.
