As St. Francis gets ready for its major Miracles Gala Saturday at the Connecticut Convention Center, Hartford Hospital is pitching its big fundraiser and it is coming with some serious star power.

Grammy award winning band,  Earth, Wind & Fire,  will headline its 22nd Annual Black & Red Gala on Jan. 5 at the Bushnell.

Here’s the scoop:

“Hartford Hospital’s 22nd annual Black & Red Gala has an impressive headliner this year: Earth, Wind, & Fire. The annual fundraiser is set to take place on January 5, 2013 at the Bushnell and more than one thousand medical, business, and community leaders will come together to raise money for Hartford Hospital’s Transplant Program.

Earth, Wind, & Fire has garnered 20 Grammy Awards nominations with eight wins. The group’s new single, “Guiding Lights” is currently Top 30 on the Billboard Urban Adult Chart. Hartford Hospital is honored to welcome Earth, Wind, & Fire as the entertainment for this year’s Black and Red Gala.

Funds raised through this year’s Black & Red will be used to help transform Hartford Hospital’s Transplant Program, by increasing the number and types of exam rooms to meet the needs of today’s transplant patient; building a larger and more comfortable waiting room; designing the workspace to maximize efficiency and collaboration among the multi-disciplinary healthcare team; and upgrading the conference room including advanced communication technology to meet the needs of patients, referring physicians and the transplant team

Hartford Hospital performed its first kidney transplant in 1971; liver and heart transplants followed in 1984. Today, Hartford Hospital is looking to create a comprehensive, regional Transplant Center where patients will have all of their health care needs met in one location.
