shostIt’s the eating extravaganza of the season Thursday, the annual Share Our Strength Taste of the Nation.

Famed chef and organizer Billy Grant with co-chair Angela Pitrone, along with dozens of others well-known Hartford area chefs and restaurants, will be putting their best culinary expertise on the line at Marquee Events and Catering, 960 Main St., Hartford, as guests take advantage of dine around that also includes fine wines and libations.

All proceeds benefit the organization that fights childhood hunger in Connecticut through the No Kid Hungry Connecticut Campaign, Food Share, End Hunger Connecticut and Hartford Food System. Tickets are available at the door or go to ce.strength.org

rcatsPlay ball! will be the welcomed seasonal shout-out at the New Britain Stadium Thursday where the Rock Cats will play the Portland Sea Dogs for its first home game of the season. Melissa-dArabian-10-dollar-dinners-still[1]On Saturday, Food Network and Cooking Channel star Melissa d’Arabina will be at the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame Saturday at 6.m. for the annual Jordan Matthew Porco Memorial Foundation Suicide Preveniton Fundraiser.

The foundation was established in 2011 after Porco, an Andover resident, took his own life while a freshman in college. Food from all five Max Group restaurants will be featured at the event.
