Ya gotta love James Varano and his Black-eyed Sally’s on Asylum Street in Hartford.

On Friday night, customers not only enjoyed great food and great music, but also got police drama and some professional stand-up comedy, all in a few hours.

Comedian Ron White, who was performing at the Bushnell that evening,  ate lunch at Sally’s and said he really liked the place and he’d be back later, according to Varano.  Sure enough, after the show the tour bus pulls up in front of Sally’s and Ron and some of the crew come in to party.

Meanwhile the cops get into an argument with the bus driver/bodyguard, Pat McCollum, who is in the bus  parked outside of the restaurant.  McCollum is arrested and he and the bus are off to the police station, Varano said. Meanwhile White was inside partying and taking the mic while the crowd is exuberant as the party continues to roll on.

After being booked for interfering with an officer, McCollum returned to the club and he and White proceeded to joke about the whole incident on stage, to the delight of the hyped-up audience.

Varano described the evening as “hilarious.”
