Hamden is one of the top 100 places to live in the United States, according to CNN and Money Magazine, which released its 2012 100 Top Places to Live List on Monday.

It’s not the first time  the town has made the list.  It also made the list in 2008 and 2010.

And what makes this New Haven county community so appealing?

“The Land of the Sleeping Giant’s mountains, hills, and parks coupled with Quinnipiac University’s college-town energy make this classic New England town the ideal abode for many growing families,” the site says.

I burst out in laughter when I heard this on the news last night. Here is a town where taxes are atrocious, the debt service is out of control, the town has a barely wet rainy day fund balance, and for years mayors have refused to fund the pension, causing major issues for those who have retired and for those who pay taxes. Top 100? I think not!
