That escalating problem with his former campaign finance director, Robert Braddock, didn’t seem to take the glow out of House Speaker Chris Donovan’s Thursday evening.  Despite the media feeding frenzy over the federal investigation into campaign contribution irregularities, Donovan, a Democratic candidate for Congress in the 5th district,  showed up as scheduled at the CT Fair Housing Award dinner to receive,  interestingly enough, the Edward M. Kennedy Legislative Advocacy Award.

And while he may have been down by that point of the day, peeps there gave him a  standing ovation.

Donovan  was subdued and appeared sad, according to some.  Good reason. Braddock was arrested Wednesday by federal authorities  for allegedly hiding campaign contributions and campaign manager Josh Nassi was reportedly sent packing soon after. And the mess continues as the federal investigation accelerates  http://cour.at/L3myVn and Donovan, who is cooperating with the investigation,  prepares to face off against several others for the party’s endorsement at a primary in August.

”What a mess,” said one supporter at the Thursday’s event who asked not to be identified. “I believe he did not know about what was going on with that campaign money but the timing for all of this could not be worse for him.”
