Landmark Holy Land Cross To Be Lit Sunday

by Categorized: Uncategorized Tagged: , , Date:

cross2For those of us who grew up in this area, the cross high on the hill at Holy Land in Waterbury was always a significant landmark. On Sunday, it will shine again, just days before Christmas.

On Sunday at 4:30 p.m. there will be a celebratory mass followed by the cross lighting gathering on Elm Street at 6 p.m.

The once popular shrine, considered a landmark in the area,  fell into disrepair and closed many years ago.

Efforts to restore it, including a new cross, were started a few months ago  by businessman Fritz Blasius, Waterbury Mayor Neil O’Leary  and supporters.
