NBC Connecticut news co-anchor and show host Yvonne Nava is going home.
“For the past five years, Yvonne has jumped into the community,” said David Doebler, station president and General Manager. “She has done a lot of good stuff on the air and in the community and the opportunity to go back with her child to be close to her family is understandable, ” he said. “Heart strings won out over love for Connecticut.”
The mother of a son, Nava began her career at Telemundo in her hometown of Laredo, Texas and then worked at several other stations in Texas, Tennessee and Florida before coming to Connecticut.
A graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, she was recognized by Hispanic magazine for being an outstanding role model for Latinas. Here, she was also named to the Hartford Business Journal’s prestigious “40 under 40” list.
Doebler said the station is now reviewing applicants for her position and expect to name her replacement in the next week.
“She has done a nice job and we loved having her,” said Doebler. “She is a great journalist and we are sorry to see her go, but understand and respect her decision.”
