Rosenthal and Tyler, Ready to Rock New Restaurants
Two great restaurateurs, two great new restaurants, three great preview parties this weekend.
Max Group’s Rich Rosenthal is celebrating as he prepares to open his ninth eatery, Max Burger in Longmeadow, his second restaurant in Massachusetts. Max Tavern is located in Springfield.
The new place is located at 684 Bliss Road.
There is a last minute scramble to get it all done, (hence no pictures yet) but the new restaurant will be christened Friday with a party benefiting one of the town’s non -profits.
The sneak preview (the restaurant opens to the public on July 23) begins at 6 p.m. and will include food, artisan cocktails, craft beer and menu samplings. Tickets are $75 with a portion being donated to LEEF, the Longmeadow Education Excellence Foundation. Call 413-798-0101.
On Saturday, famed chef Tyler Anderson, will unveil his new Millwright’s in Simsbury to invited friends and family and on Sunday host a preview for invited guests including 500 Facebook fans who were the first to “like” the restaurant’s new page.
The restaurant, located in the former Hop Brook Tavern space is part of the mega, mixed-use development going on at the grist mill complex at 77 West St.
The 34-year-old is working on the dining venture with Landworks Development’s Ron Janeczko and Chris Nelson and promises a restaurant that will be extraordinary.
“I hope we have done the space justice,” said Anderson whose creative menu includes fresh sourced lobster/corn chowder, pork belly and loin with grilled plums and ice creams of the day.
Located in the former Hop Brook Tavern, Millwright’s will include a fine dining area, a casual tavern, al fresco dining and private dining space. The dining room is scheduled to open to the public on July 25 with the tavern scheduled to open a few weeks later.
Anderson was a winner on the Food Network’s “Chopped,” and has paired with other well-known Connecticut chefs to cook at the famous James Beard House in New York. Formerly with Copper Beech Inn, he has also worked at The Ritz Carlton in Chicago and the Equinox in Manchester, Vermont.
Reservations are being taken by calling 860 651 5500.

The Hartford Courant makes it difficult to find your column online and to forward a link to someone else by email. My son is a bartender who had expected to work at Millwright’s but took another job because the restaurant opening date kept slipping, with the tavern opening to follow the restaurant opening. I like your Java columns. My wife and I read them every day.
