“Come On Down” Bloomfield’s Jesse White

pric3erightA Bloomfield school district administrator will have a starring role Wednesday on a popular daytime television game show. Jesse White, a former Bloomfield “Teacher of the Year” and now the district’s Director of Math and Science, is one of the contestants on “The Price Is Right” at 11 a.m. on Wednesday on CBS.

“My wife loves that show and I promised her that we would go to the show for our 10th anniversary,” said White about his unexpected promotion from audience member to “Come On Down” contestant row player during an August taping. “We couldn’t afford to stay in Los Angeles where the show is filmed,” he explained about the anniversary trip with his wife, Walidayh White. “But we got tickets and stayed in Las Vegas and drove four hours to go to the show.”

While he cannot spoil the surprise and spill exactly what he did or did not win as a contestant during the “Dream Car Week” on the show, White did tap his math prowess and shopping savvy and did make it onto stage where he had a shot at the big prizes. “It was really a surprise to be chosen to even come to contestant’s row,” he said, noting his name was the fourth to be called at the beginning of the show. “You don’t know ahead of time and because there is so much noise you can’t hear,” he said. “So they hold up a big card with your name on it. They let you keep the card after the show.”

White said he had no idea why he was chosen. “When you get there everybody is interviewed and they ask what you do and things like that. But they didn’t even know we were there for our anniversary. “

White said host Drew Carey and announcer George Gray are hilarious, even when the cameras aren’t rolling.

“It was an experience,” he said about being on the show “And definitely worth it no matter what.” White will have to wait to field congratulations or regrets from friends and family until late Wednesday. “I can’t watch the show at 11 because I have meetings all day and at night I have an honor roll assembly,” he explained. “I’ll have to record it and watch it when I get home.”
