hebrew2It was a fundraiser with both furniture and people star power at the Hartford Marriott Downtown Sunday where Hebrew Health held its “Celebrate Great Lives” fundraiser benefitting its “A Fresh Canvas: An Alzheimer’s Arts Program.”

The “wooden” stars of the show’s auction were an assortment of celebrity Adirondack chairs — chairs that had been decorated by stars who stepped up to help out.

Connecticut  residents, TV personality Elizabeth Hasselbeck and her husband  ESPN analyst and former professional football player Tim Hasselbeck  created a green and white “50 Yard” chair, while his dad, former pro football player, Don Hasselbeck, donated “Home Is where The Heart Is,” a  white chair with a painted oversized colorful heart. “The Today Show’’ crew Savannah Guthrie, Matt Lauer, Natalie Morales and Al Roker sent an autographed yellow and melon ombre painted chair for the auction.

The live star of the show was Pulitzer Prize winning historian and political commentator Doris Kearns Goodwin, who had a lot to say when it came to President Barack Obama as a leader.

“I think from a historical point of view it is a huge step to have elected an African American as president,” she said. Noting she is an Obama fan, she lauded his health care plan emphasizing he was the first president to accomplish that feat.

“I think this is going to be a tough time for anyone elected president,” she said. “I’m impressed with him,” she continued. “It’s a hard time to be a leader.”
