Teams, individuals, community leaders and professionals have entered a tasty selection of edible homes, cottages, replicas and fanciful confections in categories including student, amateur, professional, community champion and media.

On Friday, Governor Dannel Malloy and First Lady Cathy Malloy will throw open the doors of the Governor’s Mansion at 990 Prospect St. for the annual holiday open house.
The 1909 Georgian Revival-style home will feature assorted holiday decorations including a tree decorated with ornaments from the first family’s private collection, another with handcrafted ornaments by the Malloy children and another featuring the family’s silver ornaments. The decorated rooms open to the public include the dining room, with a lavishly set table, living room, sunroom, reception area and library. Docents will be on hand to discuss the history and features of each of the rooms.
Donations for the event come from the Connecticut Christmas Tree Growers Association, Christmas Northeast Inc., the Connecticut Nursery & Landscape Association, and the Connecticut Greenhouse Growers Association.
Open house hours are Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
Several special performances will be featured each day including one by The Coast Guard Glee Club.
There is no fee but those planning to visit are asked to bring a donation for Toys for Tots.
On Friday, The Village will host its annual “The Girl Within” luncheon at the Hartford Marriott Downtown. Guest speaker will be actress and author Victoria Rowell, who is also a blogger for the Huffington Post and is known for her work on “The Young and the Restless.”
