Actor Paul Newman was far more than an iconic actor. A philanthropist and race car driver and husband and father, the late Connecticut resident was also a champion of children with serious illnesses. He founded the Hole In The Wall Gang camp in Ashford 25 years ago, a place where seriously ill children can be “normal” kids for a while, and as Newman put it, “raise a little hell.

“The late, iconic actor Paul Newman considered himself a very lucky man both in his personal and professional life. So lucky that he wanted to parlay that “luck” into something that would benefit others. So In 1988, the Connecticut celebrity established his Hole in the Wall Gang Camp in Ashford, a place where seriously ill children could have “normal kid” fun.

Now, 25 years later, the successful camp is planning a special silver anniversary gala, one that not only celebrates the treasure that Newman built, but also its expanded facilities and programs that now reach out to an even broader range of seriously ill children.

This year’s gala is being moved from the Ashford camp to New York City‘s Lincoln Center, and celebrities including Bruce Willis, Renee Zellweger, Harry Belafonte, Joy Behar and David Crosby are among the stars and supporters expected at the “Bandits in the Big Apple” celebration Monday.”
