Lazy days of summer? Not around the Hartford area.

The weekend fun begins Thursday  at 5 p.m. when Tabor House hosts its 18th annual GIANT Tag Sale/Auction/ Bake Sale.

The three-day gi-normous sale, benefiting Tabor House and its support services for homeless men with AIDS/HIV, is held at the Convent of the Sisters of St. Joseph at 27 Park Road.

Orchestrated by award-winning volunteers, son and mom duo David and Loretta Dyson, the sale opens with a wine and cheese party Thursday beginning at 5 p.m. Tickets are $10 for the opening evening which means first dibs on  the plethora of treasures to be found there.

On Friday, tickets drop to $1 with the sale going on from noon to 8 p.m. On Saturday, admission is free from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The proceeds from the event also benefit  the under-served population of the inner city who need to outfit their  residences with affordable items.

On Friday, Goodspeed opens its production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s “Carousel.” The show runs through Sept. 23. For tickets call 860-873-8668.

Vintage fashion fashionista Famah Hoffman will again be raising money for the Child and Family Agency of Southeastern Connecticut on Sunday when she raids her closet for the annual Runway Flashback 2012  show at her elegant home in Essex.

Hoffman has a 1,500-square-foot closet full of designer classics and brings them out to the  runway for the annual fashion show benefiting the non-profit that provides assistance to at-risk children and families in New London, New Haven, and Middlesex counties.

Also on Sunday, the GE 5K Road Race, benefiting The Petit Family Foundation will be held in Plainville .

The annual race honors the memories of Jennifer Hawke-Petit, Hayley Elizabeth Petit, and Michaela Rose Petit who died in a home invasion nearly five years ago.

The event, based at the GE headquarters on Woodford Avenue,  includes a children’s run and 5K run and walk, as well as entertainment, raffles, and prizes.  For more information go to petitroadrace.com.

And then there is this two-for-one event that also provides some summer eye candy.

An open home and garden tour at the home of Chrissie and John D’Esopo, 289 West Avon Road, will be held on Sunday from 1-5 p.m. benefiting both  My Sister’s Place and Interval House.
