stjoes1 (2)The University of St. Joseph threw itself a little party Friday, a gala actually, at the Connecticut Convention Center.

And it didn’t matter that it was Friday the 13th.

Honorees for the black-tie evening included university professor Dorothy Bosch Keller, university professor emeritus Judith Perkins, university professor Shyamala Raman and Dr. Edison Liu, president and CEO of the anxiously awaited The Jackson Laboratory.

“This is a great honor for me,” said Dr. Liu, who is also an accomplished pianist and violinist.

stjoe9The new institute, located in Farmington, which will include genomic researchers and clinical providers, is slated for its grand opening in early October.

“It is going to be remarkable,” said Dr. Liu.

And as far as any cases of paraskevidekatriaphobia, the fear of Friday the 13th, it seemed to be a case of spirituality over superstition.

sthoes2“St. Anthony will watch over us,” said Keller, noting Friday was also The Feast of St. Anthony, honoring Anthony of Padua, known as doctor of the church.

“Only a Catholic college would have enough faith to have its gala on Friday the 13th,” added Sullivan & LeShane’s Gene Sheehan.
