Landon Donovan Lights up “The Rent”

These days, Landon Donovan is somewhat a polarizing figure in the soccer world as this Yahoo! story points out, however for a moment during a group stage game against Costa Rica in the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup held at Rentschler Field, he was as magical as ever. His perfect pass to teammate Brek Shea gave the US the winning and only goal scored in the game.

Donovan, who is arguably the greatest player to ever put on US national team jersey, is trying to work his way back onto the World Cup team of 2014 after he took nearly a year off from soccer. That decision angered some fans, but if he keeps making plays like the one he made at “The Rent,” I don’t see how anyone can stay mad for too long. It was fun to watch him play in person. Please read Matthew Conyers’ story, which explains Donovan’s situation in more detail. Also read  Matt’s game story by clicking here.
