South Africans across the country celebrate Nelson Mandela’s 95th birthday. Children in schools kicked off the celebrations by singing Happy Birthday and thousands of people gathered to sing and dance in honor of their beloved anti-apartheid leader. The United Nations declared the Nobel Peace laureate’s birthday Mandela Day in 2010, but for many this year it takes on extra poignancy.
- Promise (at left) and Putnam have become best friends and colleagues in their work at the Enfield police department where they work in the same Enfield K-9 Unit with Officer Brian Croteau. Promise, who is ten years old, will soon retire. Putnam, who is almost two years old, wil start training soon with Croteau.
