The Real Ride VII visits ‘Heaven’

What better way to spend a sweltering summer night than decorate your bicycle with all sorts of glowing doodads and go for a ride through the city to the tune of thumping music. The seventh Real Ride, which takes place twice a year, launched from Real Art Ways in Hartford and followed a nine-mile route.

At a brief stop at ‘Heaven’ Skate Park off Main Street in downtown Hartford, Beat Bike blogger Tony C gave an overview of the graffiti art haven. Formally named New Ross, County Wexford Park, it’s the only public space in Hartford where it’s legal to spray paint, and the cyclists made a few quick laps to appreciate wall after colorful wall before rolling onward.

Dozens of cyclists took part in The Real Ride VII, decorating their bikes, cranking up the music and launching from Real Art Ways at sunset on Friday to follow a 9-mile route through Hartford to appreciate local art. The event happens twice a year, with the next one tentatively planned for September 20. Photograph by Will Parson | wparson@courant.com
