Westport Welcomes Home Little League Warriors

Westport welcomed home their Little League team in grand fashion Monday night, with a cheering fan lined parade through the town streets. The 12-year-old boys baseball team had a long successful run over the last few weeks, winning the New England regionals and coming within one game of winning the United States championship which would have sent them to the final game of the World Series. The players and coaches, along with Westport’s state champion 11-and-under Little League girls’ softball team, boarded separate trailers and paraded from the town hall to Jesup Green near the library, waving at their supporters, and periodically throwing candy. A ceremony was then held at a make shift stage on the green to honor the young athletes, with speeches by town, and state officials.
