Just under three weeks to go and the Chris Shays campaign does what they said they couldn’t do — put up a TV ad. This one will air on Fox News, a.k.a the Republican Network. To make up the huge lead that Linda McMahon has built up Shays needs to do more than tell us he loves the work, however.

Still, Shays shows that he still has a little unpredictable left in him, which will quickly get the attention of the stick-to-the-script McMahon campaign.

Not a true Republican Shays is Republican-lite
Linda will destroy him then he’ll be outta sight
Media will make a big fuss
As they throw Linda under the bus
Senator McMahon will soon make Connecticut right

Not to contradict the doggerel above, but philosophically and historically, Christopher Shays is an actual conservative Republican who, I always thought, had the citizens of Connecticut at heart—at least as much as any politician can. More important, I can identify with him more easily than I can with a candidate who pretends to be “one of us” but earns upwards of $30 million per year. I don’t think Shays can win, but a low-key, honest, and tasteful ad can’t do him any harm.
