Before we’ve even gotten to know the guy again, the former 4th District Congressman now running for U.S. Senate is about to sink into Long Island Sound. Thursday at noon at the University of Connecticut, in the first of two planned debates with fellow Republican Linda McMahon, Shays has what could be a final chance to prove he can make a race of it.

    It’s Bysiewicz’s slot to lose. The Democrats will nominate Ned Lamont forcing McMahon opponents to step in and push for a third party run.

    Shays is on a farewell tour. A nostlagia trip. A last tour before taking his pension check to a more liveable state.

    Watching 2 minutes of Larry Hagman on the Dallas remake delivering his lines was painful. Slow, halting, forced–Hagman was physically over-matched by the demands of his job. It was unwatchable. Sad, much like Kate Hepburn in her later years.

    This debate could be similar.
