At the William -Tong-farewell-Chris-Murphy-coronation Tuesday, Democrats were full of talk about a race against Linda, because maybe they don’t want Chris Shays. I don’t blame them. Murph v. McMahon is a clash that plays perfectly to the demographic — educated, independent-voting, women – which isn’t supporting McMahon enough. So it’s no surprise the governor and party insiders are playing up a race with Team McMahon.

That’s a fight they already won once, quite handily.

But a Shays-Murphy race would mean the Dems can’t pretend the most experienced legislator is on their side. Shays would be nobody’s-man-but-yours while Murphy might be viewed as a prisoner of the liberal Democrats with little influence in a Republican Congress.

At the Tong goodbye, Gov. Malloy wisely talked about “the war on women the Republican party has been waging.”

“We know one candidate will throw at least $50 million toward the race,” he said.

Nobody mentioned Chris Shays, perhaps because he’s the Republican that Democrats don’t want to face in the general election.

I love the “War on Women” theme Daniel!

The saddest thing that there is right now as a conservative Republican is that you have a choice between Linda McMahon, who lost by 12 points to Richard Blumenthal after proving that he doesn’t know how jobs are created and that he lied for years about his military service or Chris Shays, who’s voting record is so appallingly bad and is just another career politician. 13 years in Hartford and then 21 years living off the public dime in Washington. And what happened when he lost to Jim Himes? Did he come back to his beloved Connecticut and in true career politician mode, run for Governor or do ANYTHING for this state? NOPE! He bailed on the state and went and took a lobbying job back where he was most comfortable – Washington. Now there’s a job opening in his “home state” so he returns from Washington and looks to get US to pay for his living arrangements in Washington for six more years. I for one have had enough of it. Chris if you want to live in Washington, go live there and move on already. Stop milking residents for your lifestyle choice.

The BEST candidate for the US Senate and for the citizens of the State of Connecticut is Brian K. Hill. He is a principled conservative with nothing in his past but great service to this country. He was a JAG attorney and served this nation honorably in both the Army and Navy for 12 years. He is a man who offers thoughtful SOLUTIONS to problems not just kicking it down the road or pointing fingers of blame. He has strengths in the inner cities that no other Republican could ever POSSIBLY hope of bringing to the table. He could grow the party and beat Chris Murphy.

I’ve written and said this several times; the biggest problem in the Republican Party is the Republican Party. It’s time to look past the Fairfield County Millionaires looking to appease their egos and past the tired, career politicians and start looking for the next wave of intelligent – ELECTABLE – candidates.

It’s time for someone new and bold and fresh and that most importantly – CAN WIN! I PROUDLY support Brian K. Hill and hope you will check him out at http://www.briankhill.com

It’s a myth that the GOP needs inner city support. Republican governors won comfortably for twenty years. It was John Rowland who single-handedly stained the state’s GOP label.

In 2010, Dannel 88 beat Tom Foley by less than 7000 votes. In Southington alone, a town of 6000 registered Republican voters, only 2000 came out to vote. 2nd district voters preffered Foley to Malloy by 6 points.

The Republican Party did a dismal job getting out the vote. Some of that apathy falls on the Linda McMahon candidacy. If you can’t excite the base, you’re doomed.

Brian K. Hill is a fine man, but he is NO principled conservative. Show us ANY proof that he has strength in the cities!

In 2002 when she first ran for Attorney General, Martha Dean attracted 50,000 new registered Republicans. That’s the way. Numbers of newly registered Republicans should be surging now, so, who dropped the ball?

Ask Brian if he plans to vote for Obama again.

I agree that Shays would have the better shot of winning the general but electability doesn’t seem to be a factor in republican primaries.

Of course if he got the nomination, his fawning over Eric Prince and his despicable treatment of the Blackwater widows would make for a pretty compelling attack ad. It could hurt him with women and also has the potential to set him off and show what a whack job he can be. If the polls get close in the primary, I wouldn’t be suprised if McMahon produces that ad first.

  4. joe Visconti says:

Shays beats McMahon at Convention then race becomes Nationalized. Brian Who? Oh yes the candidate who voted for Obama,no money, no record, no support, no vision. Shays in November by 3 points

  5. Anderson Scooper says:

Shays is a complete Republican stooge, and I’m surprised Rick still buys into his “I’m an Independent” schtick.

Fact is Murphy will be our next US Senator, and that’s going to be a good thing for the state.

But if it had to be McMahon or Shays, McMahon would be more of an independent, (because she is a self-funder).

Again, the funny thing is that in a Presidential cycle, anyone can imagine this isn’t a Democratic lock.

  6. Elliott says:

It always amazes me how those who take time to comment do so with little regard to facts…Anyone caring to do a little research would find that Congressman Shays has an
Excellent voting record…..is very strong on woman’s issues, animal rights, the environment and high on the list, national security to name just a few FACTS.To set the record straight the Congressman was appointed to the President’s Commission on War Contracts NOT a lobbyist….. while co chairing that committee found millions of dollars of waste, fraud and abuse. On the economy, he was one of the lone voices warning of the Freddie Mac Fannie Mae pending disaster…..he was again one of the very few in the congress, holding hearings concerning the terrorism threat long before Sept 11th….these are but a few of his attributes. The congressman has done more for this state and this country than all the other potential candidates on either side of the aisle lumped together and then some…..He is the only choice for our next senator.

  7. Ex-Shays Supporter says:

The only republican to win this election is Peter Lumaj. Mr. Green appears to be a Shays supporter. But he is not mentioning Mr. Lumaj because he knows that Lumaj destroyed Shays during the two debates they had. Lumaj was the only one who answered the questions asked of the candidates and the only one who fearlessly proclaimed his conservative convictions. Only Lumaj can defeat Chris Murphy. We know that the media will try to endorse Brian Hill claiming that he is a “well-spoken black man” as they did during the Obama election. But being black is not a qualification for the US Senate. And, by the way, he did vote for Obama in 2008. If my sources are reliable and my judgment is sound, Lumaj will get at least 15% of the delegates. And if that materializes, he will be our next US Senator, because he, and only he, can beat a liberal like Murphy.

  8. Hill says:

This election is so significant that it cannot be left to the likes of Linda McMahon or Chris Shays. Our party, time and again, keeps endorsing a well-financed candidate, or a candidate who is well connected. Well, it is time for the leadership of our party to look at new faces and new blood.
