Esty and Donovan Out With New Ads
Days before what could be the final meeting of 5th District Democrats, Elizabeth Esty’s latest ad emphasizes her endorsement by the Register-Citizen. She doesn’t bother to mention her opponents — unlike Dan Roberti’s latest, which features stand-in actors playing the roles of both Esty and Chris Donovan.
Donovan’s new ad has the candidate sitting on his front porch, telling viewers he wants them to hear “directly from me.” He says that what his former campaign workers did is “everything [that's] wrong with politics.”
Esty, Roberti and Donovan face off in Litchfield on Saturday morning in a debate sponsored by the League of Women Voters.

It doesn’t mention her opponents because this race isn’t about her opponents. It’s about the issues facing the district, and I love that she gets that.
“They have increased their bottom line by shipping jobs overseas.”
There are a lot of reasons why businesses re-locate and a lot of them Washington can’t do anything about. Labor is cheaper over there and the American Worker demands a certain level of compensation.
What DC could do is stop making stupid laws that make our employers uncompetitive to the point where they would not need to consider re-location in the first place. DC could cut down on straggling employers with red tape and taxing them to the point where they can’t make a profit. Most don’t want to leave and many just close up shop. Her idea of closing a tax loophole is fine enough but it isn’t a solution to the overall problem.
This person evidently has no grasp of the macroeconomic dynamics of our economy. This person isn’t ready for Prime Time.
As for compassion, she didn’t have much of that when it came to the victims of the Cheshire Home Invasion. She turned her back on the wife and mother and those girls when she represented them in the Legislature. She voted for repeal of the death penalty so their killers would be spared. People aren’t going to forget that.
Donovan’s got a pair the size of Texas. With all of these arrests and he’s acting like a virgin altar boy!? Please! If Chrisie had (REP) in front of his name…he’d be in jail! If the fine folks in the fifth want this clown, well then that’s on them.
Rick,
There’s a problem with the Donovan ad-it will not play it simply goes to a blank screen with the 30 second timer on the bottom of the screen. I tried three times to play it.
Despite great hair and Democratic support, it doesn’t look good for Donovan. Can a radio show be far behind?
If I were Donovan I would give up. I didn’t even watch the ad. Waste of time. Its over for him.
I hope that third guy wins.
John, If Donovan had (REP) in front of his name he’d be history…but he’s three things going for him:
1. Great hair
2. Unions
and…3. (DEM) in front of his name. It’s funny to me how shameless Democrats can be. I love Chris’s tone in this ad, and the “Nobody has fought harder” line. Unfreaking real.
