Greenberg: Dark Horse Victor In The 5th?
Does a hardcore conservative have a shot in the centrist 5th District? Could very well be.
His foot-in-mouth comment on WNPR this week about Islam being a cult might kill Mark Greenberg in the general election. But among Republicans, he remains the stealth candidate to watch in the race for the Republican nomination in the 5th Congressional District.
Mostly, I still think that Greenberg is poised to make a strong on-the-rail bid for for victory in the primary on Aug. 14. This race is going to be won or lost in the voter-rich municipalities in the southern tier of the 5th –communities such as Danbury, Southbury, Waterbury, New Fairfield, Newtown, Brookfield, Middlebury, Wolcott and Cheshire — and this is where much of the Litchfield conservative’s strength lies.
Here’s the Greenberg hiding-in-the-weeds path to victory on Aug. 14 where he faces Justin Bernier, Lisa Wilson-Foley and Andrew Roraback.
1. The GOP winner in the fifth will need astonishingly few votes — somewhere between 10,000 and 12,000. In 2010, Greenberg collected 8,259 votes in a three-way primary that he lost.
2. While Bernier won 9,267 votes in 2o10, a good deal of this support lies in the Farmington Valley, where Wilson-Foley is expected to run very strong. The same is true for the Torrington and Litchfield County stronghold of Roraback, where Bernier put up significant numbers in 2010.
3. This leaves what is roughly the southern half of the district, about 21 municipalities, that will decide the election. These is where Greenberg’s strongest support lies. Greenberg strategists believe if they can capture just one in three of the people who voted for Sam Caligiuri in 2010 (a district-wide total of 11,287) this will put them over the top.
4. Roraback, the convention-endorsed candidate, has to be considered the front-runner in this race. And Wilson-Foley, with ample resources and the only female, is a wild card because of her connection to now-under-investigation John Rowland. But Greenberg, who has more than $750,000 in the bank, is preparing to spend whatever it takes to dominate the airwaves in the final weeks of the primary campaign. He could be the one to challenge Roraback.
“We are concentrating on the 21 highest population towns,” Greenberg, who made millions of dollars in mobile telephone technology and real estate management, told me this week when I stopped by his Southbury campaign headquarters. The campaign, which has released just one TV ad, is following a careful script that will unfold between now and Aug. 14, he said. Expect future ads to sharpen the differences between Greenberg and some of his more moderate opponents.
“We are doing an incredible job running the business of the campaign,”Greenberg said. “We know how to identify the votes.”

Mark Greenberg is an example of what entrepreneurs can accomplish in America. Entrepreneurs create businesses that create jobs. We should encourage more people to follow their dreams by cultivating a fertile environment for economic growth.
Send Mark Greenberg to Congress! He will persuade his colleagues in Congress to see it his way. Seed our future prosperity. Vote for Greemberg on August 14.
Since the press will not cover the real Mark Greenberg, the Democrats will. He has only created jobs and employed people in New York. That is where his salary is from and that is where he pays all of his corporate taxes. His entire executive team is in New York. Greenberg is a fraud and the press won’t report it.
Who’s a fraud? I would say someone who gives 80%+ to Democrats, then sees that the only path to power of her own is through the Republican party, starts giving entirely to the GOP in 2010, and suddenly calls herself a “conservative” by 2012, might be considered a “fraud.”
I’m surprised LwF’s picture doesn’t appear when you Google the word “fraud.”
Re the word “fraud” and Mr. Greengerg. Strong language ain’t it? I only thought elections in places like Chi-town or the bible-belt “smeared” like that…
Mr. Bernier is the rational choice amongst the candidates. He is young and energetic and will not lose interest in the job when it is time to produce. The next congress will be a playing field he will fit right in with and be able create a real future for folks in the 5th. He knows the district as well any the others, plus he has the skill set and background in economics that Washington will require. He is the ONLY candidate for federal office in CT who chose to serve his country in a time of war. He is the real thing that Nutmeggers deserve.
While I agree with Mr. Green on his cogent analysis, I think amongst those Republicans in the 5th who will actually vote next month in the primary, Bernier will exceed his 2010 effort in the vote count. Only he has the capability and energy to take on and defeat the Democratic party-machine candidate in November.

It doesn’t matter where Greenberg creates jobs as a private businessman. His success will provide the gravitas to persuade colleagues in the House of Represntatives to see it his way. Mark knows how to cultivate the economic climate so more entrpreneurs might reach their goals, thus creating more prosperity for everybody. The current government puts up roadblocks to success. Mark Greenberg will pave the road to success for all to travel.
Mark was in Woodbury this morning meeting voters at the Transfer Station. This is an undistorted view of a true gentleman interacting with real people.

Not So Fast! is an uninformed moron and probably a paid employee of LWF. It is factually inaccurate to state that Mark has created jobs only in NY. He has built many development projects in Simsbury and Litchfield. Even if it were true he has only created jobs in NY, the requisite entrepreneurial skills necessary to do so would still translate in Congress regardless of what state he did so.
Gov. Rowland came to Mark asking to use his animal shelter as a money laundering operation and Mark told him to take a hike. Rowland came to Lisa and her husband with a similar scam and Lisa immediately took him up on the offer.
People are starting to figure out that Mark Greenberg is the only true conservative in the race. This is a classic conservative vs. RINO race and when people figure out the framing of it, the results will be exactly the same as they were in the Indiana Senate primary.
Rick Green is hardly a fan of Greenberg, but he seems to have read the writing on the wall.
Greenberg’s creation of temporary construction jobs for subcontractors hardly qualifies him as a job creator. This must have struck a chord with the Greenberg campaign because they have paid off the rest of the media but they can’t control the comments. My guess is nobody in the media will investigate this because they want Greenberg to win so their chosen Democratic candidate an easy win in November. They don’t want it out before the general election.
Greenberg, the hate monger who finally came clean with the public about how he hates muslims must make his campaign staff cringe when he speaks off script. What a joke! Another rich Jew who hates muslims running in CT. No wonder Greenberg donated to Lieberman. Birds of a feather!
Not a well thought out statement by Greenerg.
Greenberg should take a clue from Rabbi Schmuley Boteach in New Jersey who is running for the House there. Boteach’s Mid East policy is based on spreading Democracy and human values which saves him from classifying ‘good’ Muslims and ‘bad’ Muslims.
The “He’s a Joke” poster is the real joke. Greenberg “paid off the media?” Are you kidding or can you possibly be that stupid? You also obviously didn’t actually read what he said about Muslims – he was talking about the TERRORIST faction!! Do you think they don’t exist, you moronic JOKE?
