Hartford BOE Chair: Open Meetings, Transparency Will Be The Rule
Matt Poland, the new chair of the Hartford Board of Education, tells me there won’t be any more attempts to keep the media out of public school meetings.
Superintendent of Schools Christina Kishimoto has come under fire this week for keeping the media out of recent public meetings about leadership changes at city schools. Poland said it was a mistake to close meetings and administrators won’t be doing it again.
Here’s what Poland said:
We need to be open with our community and to the public as often as we can be. Transparency may be an overused word but it is so critically important. When you are not transparent, even the best intentions can be misinterpreted.
