Maybe it’s Downton Abbey or the incredible book I’m reading, The Beauty and the Sorrow, but news that the last known WW I has passed caught my eye. Florence Green was 110.

From England’s book, quoting Paolo Monelli, an Italian infantry man:

“It is not the risk of dying … not the red firework display of a bursting shell that blinds us as it comes whizzing down…, but the feeling of being a puppet in the hands of an unknown puppeteer — and that feeling sometimes chills the heart as if death itself had taken hold of it.”

One Response to Last WW I Vet Dies

  1. marc twain says:

The VARO in DesMoines Iowa told this 100% “Service-Connected” Disabled American vet that I would DIE before they would award my claim. For complaining about the overly adversarial & abusive claims process at the VA & SSA, agents from Homeland Security “arrested” me at gun point in front of my six year old son, eight year old daughter & wife, who was vomiting in distress. (Google: Kenneth Tennant, read David Lindorff’s article: The Knock On The Door) I will probably DIE before the VA awards an Earlier Effective date consistent with my service dates (1987 is when the DoD injected me with harmful experimental vaccines against the Rule of law, without disclosure & without my Informed Consent). I applied for soc sec disability in 1991, but the lawyers, judges & Congressmen work hard at KEEPING disability program money in their pockets. Debra Bice, Chief ALJ, ODAR needs to re-open my case & correct the clear & unmistakable “errors.” Does she have the moral fortitude ? Where is the Iowa delegation ? Still waiting…
