Linda McMahon vs. The Media: Bliss Bashes ‘Outrageous’ Hackett
Team McMahon campaign manager Cory Bliss writes Linda’s suporters tonight to explain why the candidate won’t be talking to newspaper editorial boards between now and Aug. 14. It seems that Mr. Bliss and Mrs. McMahon didn’t like a column in the Norwich Bulletin today that hammered the campaign for not agreeing to meet with the paper’s editorial board.
This whack-the-media strategy, most recently employed by the McMahon family business against WWE critics, has its risks. While it’s fun to blame the reporters and certainly popular with her supporters, this is a high-risk political move: McMahon, with high negatives in the polls, runs the danger of quickly developing a reputation of refusing to talk about the issues. She’s banking on sleepy bear Chris Shays again missing an opening here.
Here’s what her campaign manager had to say Sunday evening:
Linda is not going to participate in editorial boards before the primary because she has chosen to run a grassroots campaign that involves taking her message directly to each and every voter — face to face, person to person.
… Today’s editorial showed us that we have to fight more than one opponent in this campaign: career politicians and the biased media who are desperate to maintain their relevance and the status quo.
… Unfortunately, this wasn’t the first editorial filled with personal insults – and we know it won’t be the last. As more and more people hear about Linda’s tax cut for the middle class, her approach to job creation, and her
focus on fixing what the professional politicians in Washington have broken, the editorials and the attacks will only get worse. Linda is a threat to business as usual in Washington.
But we will prevail – and we will continue to talk to voters directly, without the “filters” imposed by some in the media.

Two years ago she refused to articulate her position on the social security policy saying she thought it wasn’t appropriate in the context of the campaign. At this point this is a tiresome point about McMahon (as tiresome as she is as a candidate) but she’s like someone who comes into a job interview and says, hire me and then I’ll answer your questions.
And this is too easy but you have to love her campaign manager’s name as in “Ignorance is”.
I have been following Connecticut politics for many years. That being said…. I have always found the Connecticut political press to be very fair to both political parties.
This latest “media bashing” by the McMahon campaign defies
any logical explanation. It is a long standing tradition of candidates sitting down with editorial boards…..yet Ms McMahon refuses then attacks. She blows off the League of Women Voters, News 12, WTNH….the whole of Fairfield County by refusing to debate….she selfishly tries to run on the independent line….though, that isn’t working too well for her….the list keeps growing. This supposedly new softer “Linda” is the same 2010 “Linda” repackaged.
Hiring this out of state Bliss fellow seems like the biggest error Linda’s made this cycle.
“……..but she’s like someone who comes into a job interview and says, hire me and then I’ll answer your questions.”
And yet the Democrats are Gung Ho to pass a bill they have never read. Pass it so we can read it.
Voters have had almost three years to read Linda McMahon. If anyone doesn’t know her now by chapter and verse, he is either not paying attention or illiterate!
And…can someone tell me what good it has done and would do for Linda McMahon to continue to waste her time speaking with slanted and blatantly biased reporters who just want to bash her? Get over yourselves. YOU are not the voice(s) of Connecticut. The media in this state is unbelievably arrogant and self-important, though I’d argue your shrinking bottom lines and readership are at odds with your attitude. You all demand respect– go out and earn it like Linda McMahon is doing. She doesn’t OWE you a thing.
So Mrs. McMahon has declined to meet with the editorial boards of the state’s print and electronic media. Are we surprised? This so-called “working mom” (according to one of her TV ads) has little to offer. She helped build the tawdy WWE, she’s never held an elected office, and some of the “jobs” she claims to have created went to a multitude of wrestlers, many of whom died before their time or suffered debilitating injuries. Vote for Linda? You’ve got to be kidding.
What Mr. Bliss should have said was Linda will not be participating in editorial board meetings because she does not know the issues and she’s afraid to get off her jobs talking points. Did you see her at the debate? EVERY SINGLE QUESTION she turned to a jobs response. Abortion… that clearly is a jobs issue. What a joke.
And Mr. Bliss’s attack on the media and them not being objective. Really? It’s called an editorial board, they write EDITORIALS! do I really need to explain the sections of the paper and which ones are dedicated to objective journalism? Let’s ask her which book she reads again. All her Killing Lincoln answer proved is that she watches Bill O’Reily for his talking points. Read a newspaper, a book, anything and then you have the right to have your campaign manager dictate the standards of quality journalism.
Does anyone still read CT newspapers or watch CT news? I am in Fairfield county and the CT based news outlets are horrible. What happened to the facts, not opinion, the who, what, when, why and how.
No one wants to spend more money on taxes!
