While it looks like a romp for Linda McMahon in the Republican party later this month, one problem just won’t disappear, no matter how many millions of dollars the Greenwich businesswoman spends.

Call it the Dick Morris/Karl Rove/Chris Shays prophecy: Among a certain, essential, population of Connecticut voters Linda McMahon remains a candidate they will not touch.

From the Public Policy Polling survey of likely voters released this week:

Much of McMahon’s effort this time around is aimed at females. Here’s why. Again, from the PPP folks:

Here’s how it has played out in the Q-Poll:

33 Responses to Linda McMahon’s Problem That Won’t Go Away

  1. CTVoter says:

No surprise here. I guess the CTGOP just wants to go to hell in a hand basket in november

  2. Joe Visconti says:

Rove & Morris told us in case our conscience, judgement, eyesight, common sense, or hearing was impaired! Linda destroys the CTGOP and any chance for a Romney win. Put a fork in us we are done if Shays loses to WWE (Wack Woment Entertainment)

  3. Well with the Harford Commie Hate Machine railing against her every day, I am surprised it is not double that. All of the other newspapers are in lockstep. You all hate her. But why?

What has this lady ever done that is so bad? She reminds me of my Dad. He started his own business too. And don’t even go to that whole “You Didn’t Build that mantra.

What you don’t get Mr. Green is that people like Linda and my Dad are what is right with this country. We need more business people in Washington and less career politicians like Murphy, Bysiwitch and Shays.

DC is full of people with political pedigrees like theirs and look at how well they have done running this country into the ground. It’s time for something different.

Linda may have her work cut out for her but like it or not, the election is going forward.

    • GOP in 2012 says:

John…You have nailed it precisely. We don’t need to be stuck for life with Chris Murphy in the US Senate.

The Democrats, The Unions, Certain Liberal Blogs need to be jackslapped into reality in November.

      Great post!!!

    • Tony Abuletta says:

“DC is full of people with political pedigrees like theirs and look at how well they have done running this country into the ground. It’s time for something different.”

And exactly HOW is another millionaire buying her way into a Senate seat any different?

Throughout her professional and personal life, Mrs. Vince McMahon has shown just what she is … a professional exploiter. Why in the world would I want her exploiting the government as well?

    • e pluribus unum says:

If Linda was running as a Democrat the newspapers and women would all be fawning over her and gushing about what a strong woman she is and a good role model.Instead she gets the Sarah Palin treatment from the anti-diversity (of opinion) groups.
This is the year for the Republicans to retake Congress and the White House. To have businesspeople rather than professional politicians running is a plus. Republicans who want Shays will get in line behind Linda and certainly not vote Democrat.

  4. Todd Zaino says:

Spot on John! Don’t you just love how a creep like Dodd can walk away from CT and land a cushy one million per year gig in Hollywood? The Courant never went after Dodd the way they do Linda…so much for objectivity. Keep up the excellent posts John! Colin I see has taken some of my limericks off his blog…nice.

  5. George says:

Mrs. McMahon has won two GOP Conventions, one GOP Primary, and is on the verge of an even greater Primary victory on Aug. 14th. She lost in the last general election to Richard Blumenthal, the wealthiest, most powerful and most popular Democratic candidate in the state. Mr. Blumenthal spent 20 years campaigning for a Senate seat in one of the most reliably Democratic states in the Union. Who in this state, on either side of the aisle, could have defeated him.

Mrs. McMahon has not given up. I admire her persistence, her fiscal conservatism, and her plans for the future. She will make a great Senator.

I am proud to vote for Mrs. McMahon in August and November.

  6. Todd Zaino says:

@George…the Republicans could have run Jesus Christ against Blumenthal and Dick still would have won in a landslide. There must be something in the Nutmeg state’s water that makes Democrat voters so blind.

  7. Porn Lover says:

Hi, John… Here’s an answer to your question. Just click the “family filter” button off.

  8. ML says:

Is the q-poll question really “Is your opinion of Linda McMahon favorable, unfavorable, or haven’t you heard enough about her? Is it possible to answer, YES I have heard enough about her, because she never stops running ads or sending me mailers?

In any event, the q-poll folks should work on that, switching the “you” and the “haven’t” seems like it would make a better poll question.

  9. GOP in 2012 says:

I would rather have Linda McMahon in the US Senate than that arrogant pompous a** that is job hopping every chance he gets and im referring to Chris Murphy. Now US Senator in 2016 Vice President Time to retire Murphy, Donovan and all the lousy Democrats to send a message that the voters are sick of the lies and corruption on the Democratic Side.

  10. Sean Murphy says:

I expect in the People’s Republic of Connecticut to have any Republican with a 40% negative rating with voters.

The problem McMahon has is her negatives with Republicans, myself included.

The GOP loses in CT because they run RINOs and liberals who alienate the base. That is what will end up costing her: conservatives staying home.

    • MrLogical says:

Hey, Sean: Vote your interests, not your frustrations. You know ahat another Democrat will do – especially a limp-wristed liberal like Murphy.

      Suck it up, man.

    • Palin Smith says:

Sean, I emphatically disagree. There will be no conservatives staying home on Election Day. Well, maybe one. And maybe Shays too. You’ll be in good company….NOT!

  11. May Rockwood says:

Great article! Historically, those with the most money win. It would send quite a message to Washington if Connecticut stood up to this practice by not allowing just anyone with money to buy their way into a high office regardless of their experience, or lack of scruples about how they earned their money. The numerous WWE YouTube videos readily available on-line include same sex nudity, violence and sexually degradation against woman and mentally disabled people. Shays is a true fiscal conservative and is respected by both parties, and his experience speaks for itself. The Republican Primary is August 14th ~ your vote matters and so does Connecticut. You can switch your Independent status temporarily.

  12. Richard says:

Some other pithy comments from PPP:

    * Linda McMahon leads Chris Shays by a remarkable 48 point margin, 68-20. GOP voters flat out dislike Shays …..

    * One thing interesting about the numbers on this race is that McMahon actually leads Murphy 53-36 with independent voters.

    * Favorables: McMahon 42%, Murphy 38%.

  13. Richard says:

Bysiwiecz should run as a third-party. She could pull a moderate coalition

  14. Who has the Working families spot (a.k.a Connecticut’s OTHER Communist Party)?

Bysiwitch or Murphy? Because if she has it, she could still run and spoil the race.

  15. Well to answer my own question, Murphy got it. Oh well….

  16. Anderson Scooper says:

You right-wingers keep on dreaming your foolish dreams…

Fact is it is a Presidential cycle, and if McMahon couldn’t win in 2010, she sure isn’t going to do any better this go ’round!

  17. MrLogical says:

So, who would you rather have representing you in Washington?

    1) Someone who spent their own money on the campaign and doesn’t have any political IOU’s to pay off?

    2) Someone who got almost 80% of their campaign funds from big Wall Street donors and other limousine liberal special interests who will be expected to repay that generosity?

    Think about that.

I know who I’m voting for, and I was a Democrat until 4 years ago.

  18. MrLogical says:

The lefty hate machines of the state’s daily rags are all running full-tilt, 24/7 and they’re even pulling out questionable push-polls to give the illusion that McMahon’s going to lose.

    Dream on. Dream on.

November 6th can’t come soon enough.

  19. Palin Smith says:

It’s truly disheartening that the Shays-Visconti Cabal constantly discredits the CT GOP for any number of reasons but still swoons over the last of the RINOs.

President Obama is slipping in Connecticut. By Election Day Connecticut will be a toss-up state. It’s Romney who’s gathering the momentum now. Republican and conservative Unaffiliate voters are coming home – they won’t be fooled again.

New blood is needed in Congress. Historic Tea Party victories occurred last night. More will come in November.
The Tea Party Revolution is peaking in 2012.

Every sentient and common sense Republican candidate in Connecticut is trying to get on the Independent Party line in November. There is only one who puts himself on a pedestal, elevating himself as a purist. But Shays has insulted every last Republican candidate in the state.

In his own words from last Sunday in East Windsor – no wonder he polls at 20%. Even Peter Schiff got 24% two years ago. And that was in a 3-way race:

    http://youtu.be/k0SzJXTiD30

Now compare Christopher Shays’ antiquated ideas of campaigning with Malvi Lennon. This lady deserves all our support. Send her money and volunteers. She is the Conservative Republican of America’s future. Fresh and bold and not afraid to WIN!!

    http://youtu.be/L0UphFzO-N8

Now tell me, who would you rather vote for?

  20. Linda has a good chance this go around.

  21. Joe Visconti says:

Good Luck CTGOP you have 13 days left to decide if you will live on by voting for Shays or committing Political suicide by filling the circle for Democrat Linda McMahon.

  22. Elliott says:

Linda McMahon …..is she the 2012 version who is all soft and fuzzy or is she the 2010 hard nosed CEO whose tenure produced the sleaziest of the WWE “entertainment”. Hard to know as she keeps reinventing herself…..but then isn’t that what “career “politicians do? They pander to their base.It defies logic that anyone can support a candidate with no experience and I daresay ,after reading her literature and listening to her debate ,little to no grasp of issues beyond her talking points……I guess PT Barnum was correct when he said ” a sucker is born every minute”

  23. Mr. Green says:

Joe Visconti is trying to make himself relevant in our politics. He writes like a vicious little bitch. He has become like Ron Wilcox: Completely irrelevant! They destroyed the Tea Party and now they are at it with the CTGOP. Dear Joe, your days are over. You are a looser! You and your naughty comments are hurt Mr. Shays. He should put a muzzle on you. The CTGPO does not need the likes of you. As a matter of fact, I will work with all my hart and soul to make sure that you will never have a political future in our state because you are not mentally fit to be considered significant in our political arena.

  24. John Cook says:

It’s comical that Chris Shays actually thinks he still has a chance. The polls and 2-1 convention victory were not enough. Oh well – I guess he shall see on August 14th – and if he really is that delusional, then it won’t be good news for him. However, for the rest of Connecticut it will come as no surprise when Linda McMahon is victorious, yet again. Let’s quit wasting our time with the RINO – and move on to a Republican victory in November. After all, isn’t that what is really important?

  25. Mark says:

Oh but Linda is rich, I’m enamored by her vast wealth, maybe some will rub off on me. Some Republicans in State are really their moniker “The Elephant.” They can be bought for peanuts.

  26. Alfred says:

I was very annoyed to discover that street campaigners for McMahon left refrigerator magnets with her name on my front door, giving the impression that I am a supporter. This was done twice and I can only assume all over the neighborhood. Fortunately, I discovered and destroyed these little political placards. I am not a supporter and would never ever vote for McMahon, if only because government does not need a person in office who has made a life of orchestrating entertainment events that pander to the lowest ideals of the mass and stink of flash and glitter, without any real substance.

  27. A Real American says:

nancy johnson helped lead this state for decades. Remember her? CT GOP are a reasonable bunch. We’ve been hijacked by the social conservatives. Just look at the ignorant name calling by conservatives. McMahon will lose because she has no experience and she’s an exploitative media whore.
