Rowland Operating Behind The GOP Scenes? I’m Shocked!

Cut the ex-con, ex-gov a break — he is an afternoon host for a radio talk show, not Dennis House. We really shouldn’t be surprised that John Rowland wants to see more Republicans elected or that he’s advising and talking with the ones he likes?  Rather than Rowland talking about who he’s helping out on the sly (Lisa Wilson-Foley, first reported here) I’d like to hear an honest commentary about what he learned from the scandal that forced him from office. Even better, how about asking Mike Clark, the Republican 5th District candidate to come on his show for a chat. Clark is one of the former FBI agents who helped put Rowland behind bars. Now that would be good radio — and good ratings.

Honestly Rick, is it another slow news day? Rowland owes you nothing. How many times on your blog have you gone to this tired old story? Are you jealous of Rowland’s success? He reaches more people in five minutes on his show than you do in a month.

Yesterday you had a piece about the differences there are comparing schools in poorer towns compared to more affluent towns. A blogger challenged you to give up your West Hartford home to a poor family in Bridgeport. Put your money where you mouth is Rick. Here’s another challenge for you: Go on Rowland’s show (I am confident he’d love to have you) and defend the liberal agenda this state has. Try to tell Gov. Rowland that the Courant isn’t leftist. Try to run past Rowland that Malloy isn’t a fraud, heck if you and the Gov have time, discuss the first three years of Obama.

Pretty easy for you to sit behind your computer and take jabs at Rowland. Man-up and go on his show mano-a-mano. Rowland would eat your lunch, and by your continued cowardice it seems, you know it as well.

Rowland is a convicted felon. He should be ashamed of himself, but he’s not. That’s what makes him such a snake. I can’t stand when people call that show of his and call him “Governor”. He is not the Governor anymore and doesn’t merit the respect to be called Governor anymore. That respect is reserved for those who served HONORABLY. Just goes to show you that it pays to be a criminal.

Rick continues to show no class
Malloy says we can all smoke grass
Slamming Rowland with all his might
    Rowland vs.Green wouldn’t be a pretty sight
When will Rick stop dishing his liberal trash

The problem: I don’t think John Rowland can say anything that will satisfy his biggest critics.

He could but it would involve undignified groveling and tears and beggary. A kissing of the feet and a pedicure might also be required. And that’s not happening anytime soon. Some people simply aren’t worth apologizing to.

Green on WTIC now there’s a hit
Rick could slam a guy named Mitt
Rick’s crude and far from fine
He gets around minus a spine
Rowland’s a success, why the hissy fit?

It seems like years ago (the late 90s, to be exact) that Republicans ran on a motto of “character counts.” At the time, of course, this was a jab at Bill Clinton, whom the Right portrayed as being slimy, especially after the Lewinsky affair was revealed.

But now, WTIC and the powers-that-be in the Right in CT have chosen as their chief spokesman, a man whose character has been demonstrated to be less than pristine. It may be that Rowland’s conviction is in the past, but I find it difficult to believe that WTIC and the GOP could not manage to find someone to lead the Right whose character was less questionable.

Seriously; the best the Right could do was hire a felon to speak for them? Really? I’d think the more law-abiding Republican operatives in this state — whom I assume are numerous — would be insulted that they were left out of consideration, in favor of Rowland.

Come on, Rightists … you guys could have done a lot better. But you didn’t. Why? Does character no longer count, as you once averred? Or are you just so desperate for a glib mouthpiece that you’re willing to look the other way and compromise your own claimed “core principles” in order to have him?

well…..he hasn’t had an abortion. So yes, character counts!

I know where we can find plenty of slimy losers and their real war against women….

this rowland story has merit, unlike most on this blog.
Rowland does a disservice to his listeners when he withholds any discussion of the race in the 5th. I expect him to be opinionated and one sided on the air, yes, but volunteering for a candidate and not disclosing it? Why wouldn’t he own up to that on the air? The fact that he hasn’t speaks for itself.

Where was the press in 2010 when Rowland was advising Tom Foley, Mark Greenberg and many other Republican candidates? They didn’t seem to find those stories worthy of their coverage. The ex-governor is admirable for constantly pitching in to help Republican candidates get elected for the greater good of all.

his show didn’t start until mid-late september in 2010, and by election day of that year it was still unclear how successful their show might be. It would have been unreasonable to expect him to cut any ties so close to the election just because he started to do a radio show. Now that the show is established, his “endorsement” is much more newsworthy, especially if it effects what he discusses on the air.

dom, Rowland was still an “ex-con” in 2010 when Tom Foley and Mark Greenberg used his counsel without any controversy. See my comments below for why it is noteworthy now. Last I knew America was a free country and even Rowland has a right to volunteer for a campaign!

Is Rick really vetting a former governor? Where was Rick’s desire to vet in 2008 when soon to be greatest president ever was running against Hillary and McCain?

  9. Todd Zaino

    Green’s shocked he recently mocked
Such rubbish he should be docked
    Rick’s sarcastic tone
    Lacking a spine bone
Green writing something fair then I’ll be shocked

Rick you should march over to Colin McEnroe’s office punch him in the nose…how dare he attempt to steal your Rowland-bashing gig!

I thought you might enjoy a few limericks with your AM coffee…enjoy!

Green and McEnroe up to old tricks
Piling on to give Rowland some new licks
    Talk about two old hens
    The Courant’s resident has-beens
Rick and Colin what a couple of dicks

Colin sips wine from a sour grape
    Rowland’s success he cannot escape
His old show was a bore
    Look at John’s ratings soar
As McEnroe and Green commit objectivity rape

WTIC now has a winner at three
The wonderful ratings are easy to see
    Colin’s eyes are bright green
Worst case of jealously I’ve ever seen
While readers of the Courant continue to flee
