Summer’s Here And In Clinton, It’s Year-Rounders vs. Seasonals
The annual influx of thousands of summer residents has begun, but this year controversy has rolled in like thick fog off Long Island Sound.
At stake, some say, is the very future of this historic shoreline community, an old factory town with deep blue collar roots, a renowned harbor, sandy beaches and increasingly, million dollar waterfront homes.
Just months ago, it looked like Clinton had approved a new high school by a razor thin 40-vote margin, out of more than 4,000 votes cast. To supporters, a new Morgan School would send an emphatic message to young families that this town – and, increasingly, Connecticut – sorely needs to survive.
But to the Clinton Taxpayers Association, a new $65 million bells-and-whistles high school means an equally dire threat: people won’t be able to afford to live in a town that already has one of the highest mill rates along the Connecticut shoreline.
