Tom Foley: Nice Try Dan, But Your Ed Reform Failed
With unionist teachers angry at Gov. Dannel Malloy’s education reform plans, Republican governor-in-waiting Tom Foley says the strategy wasn’t “nearly bold enough.”
Speaking to the Hartfordite on Face the State, Foley sounded like he was already trolling for votes.
”Teachers aren’t the problem. It was very aggressive toward teachers,” he said of Dannel Malloy’s education reform proposed, in part, linking student performance to teacher evaluation.
So what would a Gov. Foley do?
Foley said he would have gone big time on “public school choice.” That’s interesting because to many people, more public school choice means more charter schools. Charter schools are the biggest sticking point with unions in the governor’s plan.
The other idea that Foley mentioned to Dennis House was grading schools on an A-to-F basis. I’m open to this idea but what’s the point? That Avon schools are good and Hartford schools are bad? I think parents, teachers and taxpayers already know this.

Foley’s plan is a slightly different flavor of milquetoast.
Say the ‘V’ word Tom. Vouchers for public, parochial, charter, private, and home-schooling options.
Let the flowers bloom.
That’s right, Foley–tell teachers Dan was “aggressive” toward you and they’ll line up behind you. Do you think they’re stupid? Dan Malloy just wants to hold teachers accountable–he wants to protect good teachers from bad teachers who tarnish the profession’s reputation. You’d gut the whole profession like a trout! We’re not dumb–no way teachers will support Foley, who is no fan *at all* of public education.
