South Windsor Moms Sale2Avon Junior Women’s Club will hold a whale of a sale Friday and Saturday, Oct. 4 and 5, at the Avon Senior Center, 635 W. Avon Road. The infant and children’s consignment event features baby gear, Halloween costumes, strollers, toys, sports equipment and clothing in sizes from newborn to teens. Friday’s hours are 5 to 8 p.m.; admission is $5. Admission is free on Saturday, when the hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Information: www.ajwc-ct.org.

The South Windsor Moms Club holds its 15th semi-annual children’s’ clothing & gear consignment sale on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 4 and 5. Friday’s hours are 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. and there is a $5 admission fee. Saturday hours are 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and admission is free. The sale takes place are Wapping Community Church, 1790 Ellington Road, South Windsor.

Book Sales

The Friends of the Avon Free Public Library host their annual book sale on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 4, 5 and 6. Friday hours are 4 to 8 p.m.; Saturday hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday hours are noon to 2:30 p.m. (On Sunday, books are $5/bag.) Friends of Hall Memorial Library, 93 Main Street in Ellington hold a Bag of Books Sale on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 4, 5 and 6. On Friday and Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., bags of books are $9. On Sunday from 1 to 4:45 p.m., books are $5 a bag.

On Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 5 and 6, the Essex Library, 33 West Ave., will hold a used book sale. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, when remaining items are 50 percent off. Information: www.youressexlibrary.org/ or 860-767-1500.

The Friends of the Somers Public Library, 2 Vision Blvd., Somers, will hold a used book sale Friday through Sunday, Oct. 4, 5 and 6. Friday’s hours are 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and admission is $5. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free both days. Most books are priced from 25 cents to two dollars. On Sunday, all books are half price. Tag Sales & Flea Markets

Notre Dame Church, 272 Main Street in Durham, holds the last of its seasonal, monthly tag sales and flea markets on Saturday, Oct. 5, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event features household goods, crafts, sewing supplies, jewelry, books, collectibles and furniture. Clothing is $2.50 a bag.

The Kiwanis Club’s Big K Flea Market/Craft Fair, 39 E. Cedar St. (CT Route 175) in Newington has reopened for fall and will be open each Sunday through October. Hours are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission donation is $1; parking is free.

The Salmon Brook Shops, 563 Salmon Brook Road in Granby, are holding a fall outdoor tag sale on Sunday, Oct. 6. Merchandise includes antiques, china, glass, furniture books and kitchen items. (The sale starts at 8 a.m. and ends when stuff is gone. Rain date is Oct. 13.) Information: 860-653-6587.

Free Family Fun

Celebrate Granby will be held on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 4 and 5, in Salmon Brook Park. The event is a two-day carnival with rides, games, musical entertainment, dance performances, crafters, kids’ activities, classic cars and more. Hours are 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday. Information: www.celebrategranby.com.

On Saturday, Oct. 5, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the 4-H Education Center at Auerfarm, 158 Auer Farm Road in Bloomfield holds its annual fall festival. There’s a family fun day on the grounds of the Sacred Heart Church, 26 Wintonbury Ave. in Bloomfield, on Sunday, Oct. 6, from 1 to 4 p.m. The event will feature a tag sale, crafters, a pie contest, chili cook-off, classic cars, oldies music and children’s activities.
